About the Exhibition

The use of everyday objects and simple gestures in my studio practice is inspired by movements, such as Arte Povera and Rasquachismo, that respond to economic necessity and the poetic potential of colloquial materials. My work explores psychological and sociocultural concerns, including tension, stress and conformity, and their lasting effects on behavior and perception. By casting or manipulating found and discarded objects (washing machine agitators, a sun-beaten hose, beer cans, etc.), I create an object-based poetics that materializes the ongoing deconstruction and reapportioning of meaning. Repurposing materials allows me to consider the nuanced, psychoactive power of form or substance in a given space.
