Studio Sessions are an online platform where artists working in clay gather under the guidance of a lead artist to create material experiments centered around particular topics.

It’s like having new studio mates with similar interests and concerns for a month: get together, get hands in clay, get messy hands around tea mugs as you collectively brainstorm about what-ifs and can-you-believes.

About

Studio Sessions are an online platform where artists working in clay gather to create material experiments centered around a particular topic. Led by rule-defying/devising/devouring ceramic artists who are already closely investigating the topic at hand, Studio Sessions embrace a range and convergence of conceptual/poetic/formal/technical aspects and gestures.

Each month-long series consists of four sessions for a total of eight hours—that’s one two-hour session per week for four weeks. The first session is a deep dive into introductions. This is when you meet the other artists with whom you’re sharing space, and when the new group collectively considers the topic. The following three weeks are hands-on experimental sessions where process and curiosity take precedent over product. Artists devise their own casual (or very elaborate!) material experiments during each session, allowing these experiments to shift, grow, concentrate or expand as the Studio Sessions series progresses. Information and ideas are shared, failure is welcome, and strange approaches are celebrated.

Studio Sessions is like having new studio mates with similar interests and concerns for a month: get together, get hands in clay, get messy hands around tea mugs as you collectively brainstorm about what-ifs and can-you-believes. Participants will think alongside the lead artist in their research while developing personally relevant material experiments. The goal of Studio Sessions is to have individual experiences within a shared context, where seeds may be sown for what comes next.
